STATE 157023 ¶B. TBILISI 2644 ¶1. (U) Per reftel request, on November 19 poloff delivered the demarche to Merab Manjgaladze, Head of UN Division, International Organizations Department, Georgian MFA, on the UNGA Third Committee country specific resolutions on human rights situations in Iran, Belarus, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, and Burma. Manjagaladze confirmed Georgia's policy not to support no-action motions and said Georgia would always vote against these motions. ¶2. (SBU) Regarding the country specific resolutions on the human rights records of Burma, Iran, Belarus, and North Korea, Manjagaladze said Georgia would abstain from voting on the country specific resolutions on Belarus and Iran but would support the resolutions on Burma and North Korea. Poloff again emphasized that the Iran resolution was a top priority for the United States. On the Belarus resolution, Manjgaladze explained the vote on Belarus was complicated because Georgia recently opened an embassy in Belarus and the prime minister is planning a visit to Belarus.
