MEETING WITH GEORGIA

1. (SBU) DCM Perry delivered the demarche (reftel) to Deputy
Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgi Manjgaladze regarding
guidance on the October 2 meeting between NATO and the
Georgian delegation. Manjgaladze expressed gratitude for the
guidance and said he would get it to the head of delegation,
State Minister David Bakradze. He said the Government
understands the sensitivities of NATO allies on these issues
and worked hard last week to prepare Bakradze for the
meeting. He said it is because of these concerns that they
thought it important to send Bakradze to answer any questions
and, if possible, reassure NATO allies about Georgian plans
and intentions.
