Poloff delivered reftel information on UNSCR 1747 and the
imposition of sanctions on Iran to MFA U.S. Division Chief
Ismat Fayzzulaev on March 28. Fayzzulaev said that the
Government of Uzbekistan has no interest in a nuclear-armed
Iran and would take necessary steps to fully implement the
resolution. Fayzullaev also reminded poloff that Uzbekistan
had demonstrated its commitment to nonproliferation,
particularly through its participation in the Central Asian
Nuclear Weapons Free Zone (CANWFZ). He said that Uzbekistan
continues to hope that the United States eventually will
recognize CANWFZ's value for the international
nonproliferation regime and support the treaty.
