(U) Summary: On September 28, the Adolat (Justice) Social Democratic Party, one of five registered political parties, all of which support the government, nominated Dilorom Gufurdjanova Tashmukhamedova to be a candidate for the presidency of Uzbekistan. Post has obtained biographical information on Ms. Tashmukhamedova. ¶2. (SBU) Dilorom Gafurdjanovna Tashmukhamedova, an ethnic Uzbek, was born in 1962 in Tashkent province. In 1984, she graduated from the Tashkent Medical Institute. In 1993, she received her doctoral degree. Tashmukhamedova founded the Tashkent private firm "Farmed" in 1994, and since then has served as the firm's Director-General. In 2001, she was elected to be a deputy of the Oliy Majlis from Chukursai Election District No. 10. Between 2001 and 2004, she worked in the parliament's Committee for International Relations and Interparliamentary Relations. ¶3. (SBU) In 2005, she was elected deputy of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis from Oq-Tepa Election District No. ¶1. From 2005 to the present, she has served as the First Secretary of the Political Council of the Adolat Social SIPDIS Democratic Party, chief of the party's faction in the Legislative Chamber, and a member of the Committee on International Affairs and Interparliamentary Relations of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. In July 2007, she and four other chiefs of political parties were elected Vice-Speakers of the Legislative Chamber of the Parliament. On September 28, 2007, a plenary session of the Political Council of the Adolat Social Democratic Party nominated her as a candidate for the presidency of Uzbekistan. NORLAND
