(C) This cable is in response to the request in reftel for
Department's views on Cyprus SRSG Moller's suggestion
for a Security Council assessment mission to Cyprus in 2008.
Department thinks a UN assessment mission could be useful but
only after the February 2008 presidential elections in
Cyprus. Therefore, Department requests that post delay
discussion of this option and any USG endorsement of it until
after elections are finalized in Cyprus to guard against the
assessment mission becoming an issue in the current campaign.
