(C) Burmese Senior General Than Shwe is still in Singapore on
a "private visit" for a medical check-up, MFA Southeast Asia
Directorate Deputy Director Adrian Tan told us on January 10.
Tan declined to discuss the nature of Than Shwe's medical
problems (Reftel). He said it was not clear when Than Shwe
would leave Singapore, but it could be in the next few days.
He added that the general had come on a special charter
aircraft and could "leave when he wanted." Tan stressed that
this was a "private visit" and no government meetings had
been scheduled.
