1. (S) On August 21, Deputy Director of the Disarmament and
Nonproliferation Division of the ROK Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and Trade Kim Jae-woo told poloff that the ROKG had
completed its investigation of the six ROK trading companies
listed in reftel A nonpaper that allegedly facilitated sales
of machine tools from Taiwan's Supertech Company to North
Korea. Kim said that the investigation found no indication
that any of the six companies had imported machine tools from
Supertech or exported machine tools to North Korea in the
last twelve months. Kim added that if there was any
additional information about the ROK companies, including the
names of the companies or owners in Korean (or the Chinese
characters for the names),the ROKG would be able to
investigate further.
