¶1. (C) In response to the ROKG's demarche objecting to
China's anti-satellite test (Ref A),the Chinese Foreign
Ministry contacted the ROK Embassy in Beijing to convey the
following points:
-- China confirms that it had conducted a test in space on
January 11;
-- The test was not aimed at any country, nor did it
constitute a threat to any country;
-- China's space activities are peaceful in nature;
-- Beijing will continue adhere to the policy of peaceful use
of space and will cooperate with all nation toward this end;
-- Beijing has not and will not support an arms race in space;
-- MOFA took note of the ROKG's concern that there was no
prior notification; this concern will be conveyed to the
relevant Chinese authorities.
