1. (S) On June 22, Kim Jae-woo, Deputy Director of the
Disarmament and Nonproliferation Division of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) informed poloff that the
ROK Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy (MOCIE) had
completed its investigation of Insung International
Corporation's pending export license application. Kim said
that the additional information provided by the USG (reftel
A) had been very helpful, and that MOCIE had decided to deny
Insung's export license application, thereby prohibiting the
company from exporting machine tools to Iran.
