(C) On February 12, poloff raised reftel points with Milton
Magana, Director of Asian Affairs at the MFA. He responded
that the GOES continues to support the vision of two
democratic states for Israel and Palestine, as outlined by
President Saca at the UN General Assembly, and that they are
encouraged by the efforts of the Palestinians to form a unity
government. In addition, he said that the Salvadoran Embassy
in Israel, which recently relocated from Jerusalem to Tel
Aviv, is considering opening a consular office in the West
Bank to attend to the needs of a small community of
Palestinians who have dual-Salvadoran nationality. Finally,
Magana mentioned that FM Lainez planned to visit Jordan,
Israel, and possibly Egypt in May.
