(U) On December 21, Poloff delivered reftel demarche to
Egriselda Gonzalez, Foreign Ministry Candidacies Desk
Officer. Gonzalez confirmed receipt of earlier dipnote
regarding Prosper's candidacy for the UN Committee on the
Elimination of Racial Discrimination. She added that her
government would take U.S. views into account as it made its
decisions on who to support for the nine open slots on the
Committee. Gonzalez said that the decision was expected in
the first week of January and that the Embassy would be
informed. Post will forward GOES response when received.
