(U) On August 9, Poloff delivered reftel demarche and
diplomatic note to Mauricio Ruiz, the MFA Official in charge
of candidate nominations, and Mario Rivera, MFA Director of
Multilateral Affairs. Rivera commented that El Salvador had
supported Ms. Gaer's initial election to the Committee and
would support her candidacy again. He promised that a formal
response to the diplomatic note would be forthcoming. Post
will forward the response when received.
