SUBJECT: ITALY: NO DECISION YET ON UN IAAC ELECTION

(C) Poloff delivered reftel demarche to MFA UN desk officer
Gabriela Biondi October 22. Poloff requested Italy's support
for the election of David M. Walker to the UN Independent
Audit Advisory Committee, and provided a copy of Walker's
biography. Biondi said Walker sounded like a qualified
candidate, but no decision had yet been taken on the upcoming
vote. She once again raised the question of Italy's
candidate for the UN Advisory Committee on Administrative and
Budgetary Questions, Renata Archivi. Poloff reminded Biondi
of the long-standing U.S. policy against vote trades.
