¶1. (C) Poloff delivered reftel demarche to MFA Acting Office
Director for East Africa Domenico Polloni August 21. Polloni
said Italy agreed with the U.S. on the importance of full
implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Sudan,
and said the question of an IGAD Partners' Forum (IPF)
ministerial in Rome had already been raised in discussions at
the deputy foreign minister level between Italy and Norway.
Italy is awaiting a final decision on the IGAD summit
proposed by Kenya, but Polloni said Italy is favorably
disposed to the idea of hosting an IPF ministerial in Rome
should the IGAD summit fall through.
