(S) Econoff delivered ref A nonpaper on Iranian efforts to procure specialty steel for use in its ballistic missile program to Enrico Padula, the MFA working-level official responsible for MTCR issues. Padula said the GOI shares USG concerns regarding Iranian attempts to procure items controlled by the MTCR and that he will share the information with the appropriate GOI agencies. ¶2. (S) On a separate issue, Padula said the GOI will support the USG proposal to revise MTCR controls on UAVs and cruise missiles (Ref B). The GOI has informed the MTCR POC in Paris of its decision.
