NATIONAL MINORITIES SEEKS US SUPPORT
¶1. Guido Lenzi, diplomatic advisor to the Minister of
Interior, met with poloff on May 10 to seek support for his
candidacy as the OSCE High Commissioner on National
Minorities. Lenzi, a member of the Italian diplomatic
service since 1964, has significant multilateral experience
with NATO, UN, EU and OSCE. His work has contributed to
Italian policy on EU enlargement and integration. His
domestic assignments have included stints as diplomatic
advisor to the Ministers of Defense and Interior and Deputy
Chief of Staff to the Foreign Minister. Lenzi speaks fluent
French, English and Spanish.
¶2. Lenzi is an excellent contact who has given us broad
access to the Ministry of Interior. He understands that
other candidates for the position have a higher international
profile, but believes that the position requires a
technocratic, not political approach. A complete CV and
statement of intent have been emailed to the Department.
