1267 DESIGATION
1. (SBU) On January 6, 2007 Post received the following
diplomatic note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
regarding the addition of Lashkar al-Taiba to the UN 1267
Sanctions list of individuals/entities associated with Usama
bin Laden, the Taliban or Al Qaida.
Complimentary opening --
The Ministry wishes to refer to the Embassy's diplomatic note
no 2272, dated May 7, 2006 regarding the addition of Lashkar
al-Taiba to the UN 1267 list of entities and individuals
subject to sanctions. The U.S. Government requested that the
Saudi Government take the necessary measures to ensure that
funds and resources are not made available to this group,
which includes freezing its assets.
The Ministry wishes to inform the Embassy that Lashkar
al-Taiba has no financial activities in SAUDI Arabia. In
light of our ongoing cooperation, the Government of SAUDI
Arabia intends to freeze this group's assets should it
conduct transactions in the Kingdom.
