¶1. (U) Poloff delivered reftel demarche and talking points
to Saudi MFA, November 18. Post received the following
response from the MFA on December 16. Begin Translated Text:
With reference to the Embassy's note number 07-1648 dated
November 18, 2007 regarding the request of the United States
Government the support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in
reelecting the US for the UN Committee against racism.
The Ministry would like to advise that in light of the
distinguished relations between the tow countries, the
Kingdom suggest reciprocal support between the two countries.
The Kingdom will support the above mentioned nomination of
the US against the USG's support for the Kingdom in its
nomination for the HR Council during the period from
2009-2012.
Please advise us of your decision.
