¶1. (S) Charge' met with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs
Dr. Nizar Obaid Madani on January 7 to relay the request
contained in reftel that the SAG refrain from allowing
high-ranking Syrian officials to visit the Kingdom. In
response, Dr. Madani told Charge' that he is unaware of any
planned visits by Syrian President Bashar Al Assad or other
high-level Syrian officials to the Kingdom. He said that
there have been no requests by either the Syrians or the
Saudis for such meetings, noting that no high-level Syrian
officials participated in the Hajj. Post will continue to
engage with the SAG on this issue.
