¶1. (C) Deputy Chief of Mission Michael Gfoeller delivered
reftel demarche to HRH Prince Turki bin Faisal, Head of
Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prince
Turki asked for further clarification of the support
mechanism-- which was provided, then questioned whether Iraqi
Prime Minister al-Maliki is capable of bringing about
national reconciliation. He stated that al-Maliki is aligned
with Iran and "everyday Iran is gaining and Saudi Arabia and
the United States are losing."
¶2. (C) Prince Turki ended his remarks by stating that he
will pass our message to Foreign Minister Prince Saud
al-Faisal, whom he confirmed will be attending the Expanded
Iraq Neighbors Meeting in Istanbul next month.
