1. The President of the Bank of Latvia, Ilmars Rimsevics, was
re-elected by the Saeima (Parliament) on November 1 to
another 6-year term. Rimsevics was first appointed to head
the central bank in 2001, and his new term officially begins
on December 21. He was the only candidate put forward, and
the vote was 92 in favor, none against, and one abstention.
