(U) Upon receipt of ref A, Post delivered reftel points and CV for Mr. Pierre-Richard Prosper, U.S. candidate for the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Post followed up with a diplomatic note to reiterate our request for support. ¶2. (SBU) On Dec. 21, Pol Chief spoke to Ingibjorg Davidsdottir, Counsellor for Human Rights at the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs regarding Mr. Prosper's candidacy. Davidsdottir reported that both her department and Iceland's UN Mission in New York had recommended to the Foreign Minister that Iceland support Mr. Prosper. Though Davidsdottir could not unequivocally pledge Iceland's support at that time, she said a vote for Mr. Prosper was "very likely." KLOPFENSTEIN
