1. (C) On March 7, poloff met with Karim Halim, Bilateral
Affairs and Counterterrorism Officer at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, to discuss the Interpol Secretariat's
recommendation to issue six Red Notices related to the 1994
bombing of the Argentine-Israeli Mutual Association (reftel).
Recalling the gravity of this heinous crime, poloff urged
the GOM to support the issuance of the notices at next week's
Executive Committee meeting in Lyon.
2. (C) In response, Halim referred to the UK case against
former Iranian Ambassador to Buenos Aires Hadi Soleimanpour,
and in this context wondered whether there is enough credible
information for Interpol to justify issuance of the six red
notices. Nonetheless, Halim took note of the U.S position
and pledged to relay our views to other concerned GOM
officials.
3. (C) Legat has also conveyed the U.S. position to
counterparts in the office of Mostapha Mouzouni, Director of
the Judicial Police and Interpol Executive Committee member.
