(SBU) On May 18, Political Economic Counselor and Russian Political Counselor for External Affairs Denis Grishchenko met with Jan Kara, Director of the United Nations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to deliver Ref A demarche. PolEcon Counselor and Russian Counselor welcomed Czech membership in the Global Initiative and encouraged active Czech participation. PolEcon Counselor and Russian Counselor also passed the Plan of Work, Terms of Reference and main points of contact for the Global Initiative. Kara stated that the Czechs are proud to join the organization and noted that information on the Global Initiative was passed on to the Czech National Security Council's coordinating body for foreign policy and security concerns. ¶3. (SBU) Kara stated that the Czechs are looking forward to participating in the upcoming meeting in Astana and stated that the MFA is still awaiting word from the State Office for Nuclear Safety as to whether they would participate (Ref B).
