Poloff followed up with the foreign ministry's director of
political affairs Weiner Jean Baptiste on the reftel demarche
delivered April 17 requesting that Haiti communicate support
for the joint U.S.-CARICOM statement concerning the
Initiative to Combat Illicit Trafficking in Arms (CITIA).
Jean Baptiste said he had prepared a note for the Foreign
Minister Jean Renald Clerisme to send to the CARICOM
Secretariat and would ensure that the GoH had indeed sent it.
SIPDIS
Haiti fully supports the initiative, and would be willing to
produce a bilateral agreement on the issue. However, Jean
Baptiste added, countries should address region-wide problems
at a regional level.
