(U) Poloff discussed reftel points November 16 with Ministry of Foreign Affairs Political Affairs Director Wiener Jean-Baptiste and Judicial Affairs Director Fortune Dorlean. Jean-Baptiste told Poloff that Haiti supports the resolutions on the human rights situations in Iran, Belarus, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Burma. Support for international human rights causes is important to Haiti, he said, and Haiti does not plan to change its position. ¶2. (U) Poloff emphasized the importance of countering possible no-action motions and the need for a full debate on the human rights issues. Dorlean responded that Haiti's UN Ambassador was keenly aware of these country resolutions as well as possible strategies that might be used to block their passage or stifle debate. He was not worried, he said. Although Dorlean was certain the Minister was well aware of the importance of supporting the resolutions, he promised to communicate the demarche points to Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean Renald Clerisme on November ¶19.
