1. (C) We delivered reftel points on August 8 to Department
of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) Senior
Advisor for Defence and Security Relations Melissa Burke.
She responded that, like the U.S., Canada wanted to see
Kosovo become an independent state. Further, she said,
Canada wanted this to be accomplished via a UN resolution.
2. (C) Burke remarked that she would use our demarche to try
to focus the attention of more senior officials on the
matter. This was particularly important, she said, given the
low probability that the new period of intensive engagement
would deliver a breakthough (Septel).
