(C) In response to reftel demarche, MFA CFE specialist, Lars
Loken, welcomed the information, calling it a key step.
Norway believes it is critical to aim for the adapted treaty
and maintain the whole package. Norway is especially
sensitive to the flank issues and possible Baltic impact on
those. Regarding Norway's ratification procedures, he
explained that the current GON thinking is that this matter
would not need to go to Parliament. This would make the
process much faster than normal, but it is politically
sensitive to take this route.
