SUBJECT: NORWAY DELIBERATING SVALBARD QUESTIONS

(SBU) On March 9 we delivered reftel questions to Ministry of
Foreign Affairs Special Adviser Geir Westgaard. Westgaard
offered no immediate comment, but thanked us for the
questions and said he would forward them to relevant
counterparts in the MFA. On March 20, Westgaard informed us
that the Ministry was reviewing the questions in light of
Norwegian legislative and regulatory statutes and will
provide a written response to us in the next few weeks. Post
will continue to follow up with the MFA and advise the
Department of GON response.
