(C) On February 14 we delivered reftel points to Jostein
Leiro, Deputy Director in the MFA's UN Section. He stated
that Norway would consider how it would make its discontent
with Zimbabwe's potential assumption as vice-president of the
WFP Executive Board known. He reiterated that Zimbabwe in
such role would be "destructive to the UN and African
countries." Leiro pledged that Norway would consult with its
U.S. colleagues in Rome regarding this matter, and regretted
that African countries had not themselves found a way to
avoid the present situation.
