Per reftel, the Embassy on December 3 delivered to the
Cypriot Foreign Ministry a diplomatic note and talking points
requesting support for the USG's candidate to the United
Nations (UN) Committee on the Elimination of Racial
Discrimination, Pierre-Richard Prosper. PolOff conducted a
follow-up demarche with MFA First Secretary Vasilis
Philippou, Department of Multilateral Affairs, on December
11. Philippou stated that Cyprus already had already decided
to do "the right thing" (NFI),and had informed its UN
PermRep to back Prosper's candidacy.
