(SBU) Per reftel request, Post delivered on April 16 demarche on the upcoming World Meteorlogical Organization (WMO) Congress (May 7-25, 2007 in Geneva) to Alexandros Zenon, Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We have also sent a copy to SIPDIS Kyriacos Theofilou, Director of the Cypriot Meteorological Service. Theofilou informed us April 20 that he would represent Cyprus during the main part of the congress, from May 14-20. An official from the Cypriot Permanent Delegation in Geneva will represent Cyprus at all other times. Theofilou assured us that he was reviewing the USG positions with due diligence and was planning to discuss them with the MFA. He had no immediate feedback but promised to get back to us if he had anything substantive to share, as well as to work closely with U.S. officials at the meeting, as appropriate.
