¶1. (U) Pol/Econ delivered reftel request and related
information May 15 to Humeid al-Maani, Deputy Office Director
for Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Under Secretary Sayyid
Badr al-Busaidi. Maani gave no substantive response, but
stated that he would forward the information to the Under
Secretary and appropriate officials at the MFA.

¶2. (C) Comment: The Omani government fully respects its
commitments as a UN member state and can be expected to
comply with UNSCR 1737 and 1747. Given the premium it places
on maintaining cooperative ties with Tehran, however, it is
unlikely that Oman would go beyond the specific requirements
of these resolutions regarding the travel of designated
Iranians. End comment.
