(C) Pol/Econ Chief conveyed reftel points on April 8 to
Mohammad al Hassan, Deputy Director of the Office of
Political Affairs for Minister Responsible for Foreign
Affairs Yousef bin Alawi, and underscored how attendance at a
ceremony for the Natanz fuel enrichment plant would violate
the spirit of recent UN Security Council resolutions directed
against Iran. Hassan replied that the Foreign Ministry would
take our request under advisement. He added, however, that
maintaining cordial ties with Tehran was important to Oman,
and that Omani officials used their good relations with their
northern neighbor to advocate for moderation and cooperation
with the international community.
