AGAINST TORTURE ELECTION

Russia will support re-election of the U.S. candidate to the
UN Committee Against Torture, Ms. Felice Gear, in the
election scheduled for October 8, 2007, in Geneva (reftel).
According to a diplomatic note received on August 23,
Russian support for the U.S. candidate is dependent upon USG
agreement to support the Russian candidate to the Committee
in the election scheduled for 2009.
