1. Poloff met with Attorney Ana Hernandez of the Department
of Foreign Affairs (DFA),representing the Office of United
Nations and International Organizations, and pressed for
Philippine support for the anti-rape resolution without
amendments, as cited in reftel A. Ms. Hernandez said that
the Philippine delegation in New York was "confused" by the
number of amendments; poloff responded that this was
additional cause to support the amendment as originally
submitted with 61 cosponsors, disregarding distracting
resolutions. Ms. Hernandez reported that the Philippine
delegation to the U.N. was still studying the issue and would
maintain contact if it had questions.
