1. (S) Maria Aguinaldo, Director of the Social Development
Issues Division for the Office of United Nations and
International Organizations of the Department of Foreign
Affairs (DFA),informed POLOFF October 31 that the Philippine
government would send a delegation of five to seven
representatives to the November 5-8 Interpol General Assembly
meeting in Marrakech. Aguinaldo added that an Argentine
Embassy official had met with the DFA's A/S for Legal Affairs
to discuss the meeting. The Argentine Embassy also submitted
a note verbale requesting that the Philippine government
"confirm the steps taken by the Executive Committee of
Interpol in the General Assembly with respect to the red
notices," in the words of Aguinaldo. The Philippine
government committed its support to the Argentine Embassy to
do so. Given the direct communication and agreement between
the Argentine and Philippine governments and the instructions
to maintain a low profile, Post concluded that no other
action would be productive per paragraph 14 of reftel.
