1. (U) This is an action message. Please see para 4.
2. (C) As requested (ref a),post met with the Department of
Foreign Affairs (DFA) and encouraged participation in and
feedback on the Asia Democracy Partnership (ADP).
3. (C) Melanie Diano, desk officer covering U.S. affairs at
DFA's Office of American Affairs, updated poloff on the
current status of DFA deliberations regarding Philippine
participation in the ADP. Diano stated that the DFA's Office
of the Undersecretary for Policy would like further
clarification on several issues.
4. (C) Diano said DFA understood that several other
countries -- such as Australia, New Zealand, and Japan -- had
sought additional information on the main goals and purpose
of the ADP, and asked if we could share with her the U.S.
response to those other countries. She also asked why
Malaysia and Singapore were not included in the core group of
member states.
5. (U) Action request: Post would appreciate any additional
information Department can provide for DFA on this.
