(SBU) On May 4, EconOff presented reftel demarche to Angelo S.
Benedictos, Assistant Director of the Bureau of International Trade
Relations of the Department of Trade and Industry. Benedictos
accepted the message that the USG will invoke Article XXI of the
General Agreement on Trade in Services to correct its market access
commitments in regard to gambling and betting services. He
indicated that he would consult with the leadership of his
Department on the matter, and would be able to inform us at a later
time whether the GRP will seek compensation under the Article.
