1. (C) The Ambassador delivered State 98419 reftel demarche
July 17 to FM Shaikh Khalid, stressing our particular concern
over Future Bank's reported intention to establish an
operation in the Kish Island Free Zone. Shaikh Khalid said
he recognized the importance of this issue and promised to
look after it right way, instructing an aide to draft a note
immediately to be transmitted to Central Bank of Bahrain
(CBB) Governor Rashid Al-Miraj.
2. (C) Econoff will follow up with CBB Banking Supervision
Advisor Richard Ellis on July 22 and will report any
substantive response.
