(C) The Ambassador and DCM have separately engaged
(respectively) FM Moratinos and MFA Political Director Rafael
Dezcallar on this issue, stressing the importance of staying
focused on Iran's continued uranium enrichment and ballistic
missile programs and keeping up the unified international
pressure. Moratinos noted Spain had made no public comment
on the NIE and agreed it was important to keep the pressure
on Iran. Dezcallar also appreciated Administration views and
agreed Iran remained a danger to peace and stability. He
understood that the NIE results did not change U.S. policy on
Iran and noted that the international community needed to
continue to work for additional international sanctions.
