UNCLAS MADRID 000224 SIPDIS SENSITIVE SIPDIS PRM/ECA FOR ROBERT GEHRING AND ROD MACKLER E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PREF SMIG CU SP SUBJECT: SPAIN ADVISED OF TRAVEL AND DOCUMENTATION PLANS FOR PROTECTED CUBAN MIGRANTS REF: STATE 15312 (SBU) Per reftel instructions, poloff contacted Miguel Oliveros Torres of the MFA Subdirectorate General for Alien Affairs to advise him that the four protected Cuban migrants whom Spain has accepted for resettlement will apply for visas at the Spanish Embassy in Santo Domingo on February 28. Poloff transmitted to Oliveros the complete itinerary and copies of travel documentation for each of the four migrants. Oliveros said that he would advise the Spanish Embassy in Santo Domingo of the intent of the four individuals to apply on February 28 and expressed confidence that the visa applications could be processed within the time required by the itinerary. Post will report to the Department any additional response or query from the Spanish authorities regarding the transit to Spain of the four protected migrants.
