(S) MFA Disarmament Affairs Deputy Director General Ignacio
Sanchez told ESTHOFF January 24 that the GOS had finished its
investigation of the Spanish firm Maquinaria CME, S.A. (that,
per reftels, is suspected of selling computer numerical
controlled milling machines to Iran in 2004 and 2005).
Sanchez reported that Maquinaria had requested export permits
to sell additional equipment to Iran during the course of
2006 and that Spain had denied all such permits. Sanchez
added that the GOS has formally advised Maquinaria to sever
all business links with Iran. In response to an inquiry from
ESTHOFF, Sanchez said that this oral message constitutes the
GOS' formal response to reftel inquiries and that no GOS
written response would be provided.
