STATUS: Project ongoing. AFAMODSA has used the USG funds to purchase construction materials for the skill center. The Small Grants Program is following up for impact-related results in the community. The project conclusion is dependent upon other donors' technical assistance. PART B- CURRENT FISCAL YEAR (FY 2006) FUNDS For FY06 Post received USD 60,000 for SSH activities totaling four projects, 46 percent of which has already been disbursed to NGOs. The storage facility is used both for taking products to market and used to safeguard agricultural tools. STATUS: Activity began later than expected (June) due to the prolonged 2007 rainy season. Liquidation of the first advance has been requested in order to deliver the entire amount obligated. The organization has placed a portion of the necessary construction material on-site and expects to purchase the remaining material as soon it gets the second advance. The organization expects to purchase all construction materials in the near future and have them on-site to implement the project now that the roads have become more passable. The Cooperative League of the U.S. (CLUSA) monitors the project. The organization expects to purchase all related construction material soon. SSH NUMBER: SSH-06-654-004 AMOUNT OBLIGATED: USD 15,000 ADVANCE: USD 15,000 UNLIQUIDATED BALANCE: USD 11,500 DATE OBLIGATED: September 6, 2006 COMPLETION DATE: September 30, 2007 NAME OF A GRANTEE: Comunidade Forca de Vontade PROVINCE: Luanda PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Buy material and equipment for community garden such as barbed wire, 5,000 liter capacity water tanks, watering cans, wooden table stands, chairs, irrigation pipes, and stools. STATUS: Project in progress. After several site visits and a slow start, the Comunidade Forca de Vontade (Community Will Power NGO) has improved the management of its project. To date, the project consists of a twenty hectare community plot including five hectares of an already developed community garden. During the rainy season the organization produced beans, cassava, peanuts and corn. For the dry season, which runs from May 15 to August 31, the community will expand the amount of cultivated hectares and implement an irrigation system to grow vegetables such as cabbage, tomatoes, and lettuce. Due to the group's unique background, Swiss journalists from the Hirondelle Foundation are working on a documentary about this community of people who used to live in the city garbage dump and its efforts to fight poverty. The project coordinator was invited to lecture in Switzerland at the International Relations Institute and University of Development Studies. FERNANDEZ
