SUBJECT: SLOVENIA CONSIDERING EU POLICY ON LOW LEVELS OF
UNAPPROVED BIOTECH PRODUCTS IN IMPORTS

(U) On November 20 Emboff urged Dr. Simona Rogl, Slovenian
Ministry of Agriculture's EU Affairs and Biotech Coordinator,
to address the potential trade disruptions resulting from
asynchronous approvals of biotech products at EU Agricultural
Ministers. Slovenia's Minister of Agriculture Iztok Jarc
will attend the meeting of EU Agriculture Ministers on
November 26 and is aware of the U.S. concerns. Rogl stated
that the GOS has no intention of creating barriers to biotech
products entering the EU, but will support the decisions of
the European Commission.
