1. (C) On November 15, EmbOff met with Milena Radenkovic,
Third Secretary of the MFA's Division for Asia, Africa, and
the Pacific, to encourage Slovenia to support tougher EU
financial sanctions on Burma to exert pressure on the ruling
generals to begin a transition to a civilian, democratic
government, per reftel. Radenkovic stated that the GoS
appreciates receiving information on the U.S. position on
sanctions on Burma, but would await the outcome of ongoing EU
meetings before deciding its position. She stressed that
Slovenia would defer to the common EU position on sanctions
on Burma. Radenkovic also noted that the GoS is waiting to
see what specific duties are given to the new EU Special
Envoy to Burma, a position created to provide assistance to
UN Special Advisor to Burma Ibrahim Gambari.
