1. (S) In an October 26 meeting with Ambassador Andrej
Grasseli of the MFA's Department for Southeastern Europe and
Turkey, A/DCM drew upon reftel's points to raise U.S.
concerns about the rise in PKK attacks and the need for
concrete actions to stop this terrorist threat. After
condemning the PKK's actions, Grasseli said that Slovenia
aligns itself with the policy of the EU. Amb. Grasseli noted
that PM Jansa planned an official visit to Ankara on November
21 and proposed that we be in contact if the U.S. had any
message to pass along. Grasseli stated that the PKK did not
have any presence in Slovenia. He added that if the U.S. had
any useful information on PKK activities or presence in or
through Slovenia, Slovenia would appreciate it.
