REF: SECSTATE 138428
(SBU) During a meeting October 5, EUR DAS Judy Garber and
Emboff presented reftel points regarding the WIREC 2008
conference to Matej Marn, Head of the Division for European
Affairs at the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Marn
thanked us for bringing the issue to his attention. He
stated that he was aware that the dates for the March 2008
WIREC conference overlap with the planned EU Council of
Ministers meeting that will take place in Slovenia. Marn
expressed doubt that any Slovene minister would be able to
travel to the U.S. for the conference. He explained that the
EU calendar of events is officially closed and that it is
very difficult to move or change anything at this time. Marn
agreed that a dialogue on renewable energy is very important
and hoped that there would be future opportunities for
discussion.
