1.(U) Robert Boljesic, Slovenian coordinator for the
International Whaling Commission (IWC),informed Econoff that
Slovenian Ambassador to the US, Samuel Zbogar, and Janez
Kastelic from the Slovenian Ministry of Environment and
Spatial Planning are currently attending the International
Whaling Conference taking place in Alaska. Furthermore,
Boljesic assured Econoff that Slovenia is supportive of the
USG objectives for a sucessful update of the bowhead quota
and the other suggestions for creating a more stable IWC.
Zbogar and Kastelic will meet with US representatives and
other like-minded groups to discuss the issues that will
arise during the conference.
