SUBJECT: INVITATION TO ASEAN REGIONAL FORUM PEACEKEEPING
EXPERTS MEETING IN MALAYSIA
1. The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally
invited the United States to participate in the First Asean
Regional Forum (ARF) Peacekeeping Experts' Meeting in Port
Dickson, Malaysia on March 7-9, 2007. The event is being
co-hosted by the Governments of Malaysia and Australia and
seeks to establish a regional network of peacekeeping
experts. Malaysian and Australian military personnel are
expected to chair the meeting. All 26 ARF member nations may
nominate up to two participants for the meeting and the
United States has been asked to make a 30 minute presentation
on the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI).
2. Post seeks Department input on the selection of U.S.
participants. The registration deadline is February 20. The
meeting agenda and program have not been finalized but will
include visits to the Army Museum and the Malaysian
Peacekeeping Training Center. Copies of the received
documents have been faxed to the Department.
